Voices of Freedom

a vibrant concert of song and spoken word entwined with solo cello

On Saturday February 24th at 7pm, Blandford Parish Church are hosting an exciting concert of new music.  I will kick off the evening with my solo work Prayer for the Rivers, originally created for Chartres Cathedral.   I am then a featured soloist in Karen Wimhurst’s new piece Freedoms, alongside soprano Abigail Fiddik and Palida Choir.  Central to this work are lyrics by writer Robin Walter inspired by Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms.

In 2023, Palida, alongside other choirs across the UK, jointly commissioned eight black composers to create new songs for acappella choir as part of a Black Lives Matter initiative. In the second half of the programme, they will give a Dorset premiere of many of these uplifting new works.

Weaving the whole evening together will be poetry presented by members of the well loved Wimborne Community Theatre.
