This two CD reflects this interest - one is a collection of her own subtle compositions, while the second is a soundtrack for the dawn-to-dusk daily life of a South American Indian tribe. Deep, fascinating and unique" About the albums... Emily Burridge is a ‘cellist, composer, producer and traveller, with the Mato Grosso of Brazil a frequent destination. In this region she has lived and worked with members of the Xavante tribe. At the core of the Xavante culture is the daily practice of singing and they receive the lyrics for their songs from dreams. Emily was invited to record these songs and the album "Into the Amazon" is a atmospheric and emotive soundtrack for the dawn to dusk daily life of an Indian village. Track listing There are songs sung by both individuals and groups including an adolescent choir in "Adolescents" and a woman by a river in "Agosta’s Anthem". The whole village sings in "Proclamation" and prays in "Atsawidi Maria" and you will also hear the village chief chanting in "Rain Man Sings". In composing the accompanying music to the Xavante songs Emily drew a lot of inspiration from her personal experience and takes you into a beguiling world where ‘classical’ seems modern. Emily’s interest in tribal people of South America was sparked by her performance at Rio’s Earth Summit 1992. At that event she was inspired by the indigenous people’s cultures that she encountered including some Xavante Indians who invited her to visit their village.
A percentage of profits of "Into the Amazon" will help support sustainable initiatives for the Xavante community.
PLEASE NOTE This album is sold with "Out of the Blue" as in a double CD release.
